Vera Hyatt (she/her)

Hi Friends, I’m Vera. Also known as Auntie V. The birth of my two precious nieces is what led me to become a perinatal health provider. Bearing witness to the birth of my first niece and my sister’s beautiful and complicated labor and postpartum experiences inspired me to become a doula. I dove head-first into the birth world, consuming an astounding amount of researched and anecdotal information, deciding which trainings to prioritize, and imploring everyone I knew to tell me their birth stories. I am a certified and practicing birth and postpartum doula and childbirth educator and I believe that being a birth worker is how I am making the world a better place. I hold a special fondness in my heart for supporting folks with whom I have a lot in common: Queer families, sexual assault survivors, people who struggle with anxiety and OCD, those who have undergone ART in their fertility journeys, and those of “advanced maternal age.”

My goal as a birth worker and educator is to inform and prepare pregnant people, so that they can embrace the process of birth with confidence and an easeful surrender. I TRUST the physiological and spiritual process of birth. I trust birthing bodies, and I trust the path of the new beings that are coming in. What I’ve witnessed over the years in this work is that birth is both normal and complex, challenging and joyful, wild and routine. I’m here for all of it, and remain a grounded presence in the birth space, an advocate for family’s birth preferences using a Trauma Informed Care approach, and a facilitator of a true informed decision making process.

I completed labor and postpartum doula training through Birthingway College of Midwifery’s rigorous program, prioritizing the values of nonjudgemental, empathetic, biodynamic care. I am honored to have worked with hundreds of families during their perinatal year, constantly learning and growing to provide the unique support that each family requires.

I am also proud and thrilled to offer birth videography services for those who wish to capture this powerful and profound moment in a beautiful birth film. Please see our birth films page for more information!

During labor, Vera was a steadfast support. It was like having a dear and knowledgeable friend in the room. Vera’s presence in combination with my midwife and my partner made me feel like I had the three legs that a stool needs in order to balance and be stable. Having her there took the pressure off my partner and allowed him to be relaxed and fully present.
